Ueli Steck

The Swiss machine

Ueli Steck was the man of records on the north face of the Eiger. He climbed the wall for the first time at the age of 18 and from then on set speed records from time to time. On 11.11.15 he and Nicolas Hojac set the rope team speed record with a time of 3 hours 46 minutes. As the conditions in November were excellent, he climbed the wall again five days later and thus secured the speed record on 16.11.15 of only 2 hours 22 minutes and 50 seconds. Ueli Steck died in an accident on the Nuptse in the Himalayas in spring 2017.
