new Eiger Lodge Chic part

On February 5th (partial opening) and March 20th (opening 2nd part) the new “Eiger Lodge Chic” ( former Mountain Hostel / name change from December 2020) will be opened in Grindelwald Grund. After 10 months of construction, a 3-story new building complex with 45 rooms and adjacent access into the terminal of the “V-cable cars”  (Eiger Express and Männlichenbahn) was created. With the only ski-in / ski-out accommodation closest to the Eiger Express in the Grund of Grindelwald, the Eiger Lodge with the areas Lodge Easy for groups and schools and Lodge Chic for individual travelers is the ideal starting point for active connoisseurs at the foot of the Eiger North Face.

Construction and renovation

In addition to the new wood-panelled Eiger Lodge “Chic” building, various conversion and renovation measures were also carried out in the Eiger Lodge “Easy” area, the former Mountain Hostel. This includes, among other things, the redesign and relocation of the reception from the basement to the ground floor of the old building. With a trendy lounge, a separate billiard room and a spacious TV room, the reception area adjoining the breakfast room offers plenty of space for cosy and cosy relaxation. The spacious room of the old reception has been converted with various seating areas and serves as a multi-purpose room for catering groups, among others. The special feature: the high-quality catering comes from the 4* kitchen of the partner Eiger Selfness Hotel. With the separate buffet area with service, the focus here is on smooth processes in addition to culinary well-being for groups and schools.

Colour and material worlds

The new colour concept of the Eiger Lodge in the colour worlds “turquoise” (water / = source of life, everything flows, reference to the Lütschine), “orange” (experience / = sunrise, closeness to nature, outdoor) and “anthracite” (stone / clear lines, rough feel, Eiger north face) is not only found in the new logo of the Eiger Lodge, but is also consistently implemented in the old “easy” and new “chic” areas of the Lodge. Lots of wood, plain concrete floors and colourful accents on walls and in the furnishings underline the uncomplicated “Chic” of the new Eiger Lodge. The eye-catching project at the bottom of Grindelwald was planned and implemented with the architect Christoph Schmid / Holzkreation Schmid.

Facilities

18 of the new rooms in the Chic area opened in February. The 12 twin rooms and 6 four-bed family rooms with shower / WC and balcony with Eiger north face view are equipped with comfortable box spring beds and TV. Electric sun blinds and curtains can be used variably. On the 3 floors of the new Eiger Lodge building, there are 45 rooms, a storage room and a spacious corridor with 2 staircases and a lift.

Myth of the Eiger North Face

The Eiger Lodge remains true to its love of the striking Eiger North Face: the “myth” of the Eiger is celebrated. Each of the new rooms is dedicated to a famous mountaineer, who also gives his or her name to the room. From Stefan Siegrist to Roger Schäli, from Daisy Voog to Anderl Heckmayr – each mountain personality has an individual story to tell about the “Eiger myth”, which the guest can read about in his or her room. The myth should remain alive,” say owners Gisela and Daniel Heller. The Eiger Lodge has been actively involved in mountaineering for many years and has established itself as a comfortable and logistically perfect location for training mountain guides.

Partial opening on 5th February 2021 / Opening of 2nd part on 20th March 2021

Due to the current restrictions, the partial opening of the new Eiger Lodge will take place on a small scale. The new part of the Eiger Lodge will be opened with a small ceremony and guided tours of all areas of the lodge will be offered in groups of 4 in the presence of the community president Beat Bucher and the Grindelwald “mountain” ambassador Roger Schäli. They are looking forward to the grand opening on 20th August 2021, when a public event with an “open day” is planned. Anyone who would like to visit the new lodge in the meantime can register directly with Gery Moser (gm@eigerlodge.ch), the Operations Manager of the Eiger Lodge. Guided tours take place every Saturday morning by appointment.
